Just a few drops can transform an entire dish. That is something only a truly premium olive oil can do. Because high quality, traditionally produced oils are packed with flavour and nutrients, they can go up to three times further in everyday use than cheaper mass market oils. The higher purchase price quickly becomes less significant when you realise how much more slowly you use the bottle. Choosing quality can therefore mean using less every time you cook.
A premium olive oil such as Venta del Barón does not simply break down when heated and retains its structure even in a hot pan. Thanks to its high proportion of monounsaturated fats and natural antioxidants, the oil remains stable at temperatures of up to 180°C. Food is less likely to become saturated with oil, so there is no need to keep adding more during cooking, as can happen with lower quality oils.
An unfiltered premium olive oil also works almost like a concentrated seasoning. While industrial mass market oils can be relatively neutral in flavour and are often used in larger quantities, Venta del Barón only needs a light drizzle.
Natural clarification by gravity helps preserve the components responsible for flavour as well as the valuable polyphenols in the oil. Its distinctive notes of green tomato, banana and almond are so intense that only a small amount is needed to add character to a dish.
One of the best ways to experience this kind of intensity is to buy olive oil directly from the producer rather than relying on anonymous supermarket shelves.
Buying directly from the source gives you the pure character of the olive, with a depth of flavour that naturally encourages more careful use. Add too much and the oil can easily overpower the other ingredients, so moderation becomes part of the experience.
As an award winning and certified olive oil producer in the Andalusian Sierra de la Subbética at an altitude of 1,000 metres, we oversee every step of the process ourselves.
Venta del Barón is a strictly limited blend of 80% Hojiblanca and 20% Picuda olives, gently cold extracted at below 22°C within just 15 hours of hand harvesting.
Every nuance reflects the DOP Priego de Córdoba designation. This protected origin guarantees an uncompromising olive oil from the producer, made from our own harvest, with an intensity that immediately makes an impression.
If you use less oil per dish, larger formats can become even more attractive because the price per litre is lower. But if you want to preserve freshness over several months, packaging becomes especially important, because light and oxygen are two of olive oil's greatest enemies.
Many consumers specifically search for 5 litre olive oil directly from the producer. At Venta del Barón, however, we deliberately do not offer a traditional 5 litre can. Instead, we use our carefully sized 2.5 litre tins.
The reason is simple. A smaller bulk format is used more quickly, which means the oil spends less time exposed to oxygen. The tin also offers complete protection from light, helping to preserve the delicate polyphenols.
This helps maintain the oil's intensity, freshness and value from the first drop to the last.
Industrial oils can lose some of their flavour intensity through extensive processing and filtration. Venta del Barón is unfiltered and highly complex in flavour. Its intensity means that even a small amount can be enough to give a dish a well balanced finish.
Use the built in pourer on our 500 ml glass bottle and add the oil carefully rather than pouring freely.
For maximum flavour, try drizzling it over a warm dish just before serving. The rising heat helps release the aromas immediately, so you can enjoy the full character of the oil without using too much.
Not if it is stored properly in a cool, dark place, ideally at around 14 to 18°C.
The tin provides excellent protection from light, while the naturally high level of antioxidants, including polyphenols, helps protect the oil from oxidation.
If the oil begins to smoke, it has exceeded its smoke point.
A high quality olive oil is more stable than lower quality oils, which means it performs well during cooking without the need to use excessive amounts.
Yes. If olive oil is stored somewhere too warm, it oxidises more quickly and gradually loses its flavour.
Keep it at a stable temperature of around 14 to 18°C and away from direct light to help preserve its intensity and freshness for as long as possible.
